World’s Smallest Valentine

• The world’s smallest valentine is made of palladium atoms and gold atoms deposited on a carbon film.
• This image was taken by an electron microscope because the valentine is smaller than the visible wavelength of light. That means it is even too small to be seen by a regular microscope.
• By applying heat, the particles shift into the heart shape.
